When coffee liquid meets coffee powder: the machine selection notes of the old technician

Update Date: 2025-03-20 Hit: 26

Last month in the workshop of an Indonesian customer, Amir, the production supervisor, pointed to two parallel coffee packaging lines and asked me: "Why is the machine on the left filling liquid like an IV drip, but the machine on the right filling powder like tap dancing?" This question just revealed the core difference in the selection decision of coffee liquid and coffee powder packaging machines.

The story started with the "emergency rescue" of a Brazilian customer last year. They originally planned to use a powder packaging machine to process cold brew coffee liquid, but a poor seal occurred in the first week. Our engineers disassembled the machine overnight and found that the permeability of liquid coffee would cause "chronic inflammation" of the heat seal of the traditional powder packaging machine. After that lesson, our factory developed a special liquid packaging solution, adding a layer of "waterproof armor" to the sealing module. Now handling coffee liquid is as safe as installing a hatch on a submarine.

Coffee packaging machine selection decision

‌Production line compatibility analysis‌ is often the first step in the selection process**. A boutique coffee brand in Northern Europe recently encountered a problem: they wanted to make drip coffee powder bags and also wanted to promote liquid coffee bars with nitrogen lock. When we conducted a field survey, we found that their workshop had limited floor height, and finally recommended the "Transformers" solution - the same coffee packaging machine, by replacing the module, was a "pianist" who vibrated and fed the powder in the morning, and switched to a "intravenous injection technician" who used a peristaltic pump when handling liquids in the afternoon, and the space utilization rate was doubled.

Speaking of ‌powder packaging technology‌, we have to mention the amazing operation of Vietnamese customers. They used our multi-directional kneading filling system to process coarsely ground coffee powder, and unexpectedly found that the packaging bag could naturally form hand-made texture folds that were conducive to exhaust. Now this "breathing packaging" has become their popular selling point, and customers jokingly call it "the waltz of machine and coffee powder."

‌Packaging cost optimization‌ hides a lot of knowledge. When making a plan for a Yunnan customer, they were struggling to build a separate line for the new cold brew coffee liquid. After we calculated the accounts, we found that it was more cost-effective to transform the existing powder line - adding a low-temperature filling head in the metering link and replacing the moisture-resistant material in the sealing unit. The cost of transformation saved more than half of the budget compared to the newly purchased liquid packaging machine. During a return visit last week, the workshop director Lao Li patted the modified machine and said: "This money is worth spending. Now it can make milk powder with the left hand and herbal tea with the right hand."

Recently, the concept of "dual-habitat packaging machine" has become popular in the industry. The seventh-generation model debugged last month can use the visual system to detect bubbles when processing coffee liquid and automatically adjust the residual oxygen when filling coffee powder. After trying it out, the Chilean customer was pleasantly surprised and said, "This machine understands the temper of coffee better than I do!" However, our technical team knows that the real secret of model selection lies in understanding the journey of each coffee bean - whether to transform into instant powder and ride the wind and waves, or to retain the freshness and fragrance of the original liquid to amaze the time.

On the sample rack in the corner of the workshop, there are various failure cases: gears corroded by coffee liquid, conveyor belts stuck with coffee powder... These "wounded soldiers" always remind us that the decision to select a coffee packaging machine is never a single choice question. Just like the "segmented investment" plan recommended to Ethiopian customers last week: first use the basic powder machine to open up the market, and then add the liquid module when the sales of liquid coffee increase. After listening, Account Director Sarah nodded: "You are writing a career plan for coffee beans!"

Standing in the test area with a coffee cup in hand, watching the newly launched dual-mode coffee packaging machine alternately processing powder and liquid, I suddenly remembered Amir's question. Maybe I should answer him like this: "Choosing a machine is like choosing a coffee brewing method - French press and hand brewing each have their own flavors, the key is to find the temperature and strength that best suits your own beans."
