Early last Friday morning, a special car stopped at the gate of our factory-the back bucket was loaded with tool boxes, folding tables and chairs, and two portable packaging machines with "Volunteer Service" stickers. Lao Wang from the technical department was moving a multimeter to the car, and turned back to grin at me: "This time our packaging machine is going to enter the community as a 'volunteer'!"
This sounds fresh, but it makes sense when you think about it. Our factory's Lei Feng volunteer service team has been established for three years. It has repaired desks and chairs for schools and installed handrails for nursing homes, but it is the first time to bring a packaging machine to serve the people.
“Can this machine repair electric kettles?”——The first batch of packaging machines entering the community was a big hit
As soon as we arrived at the square of Fenglinyuan Community, Aunt Zhang was circling around our packaging machine: “Young man, can your iron lump repair electric rice cookers?” The maintenance team leader Xiao Chen was happy and picked up the tool bag to greet him: “Auntie, the machine is here to support the scene, but our hands are more clever than the mechanical arm of the packaging machine!”
You can’t believe it, our ability to deal with bearings and sensors every day really comes in handy in the community. When Lao Li repaired Aunt Zhang’s electric kettle, he used the temperature probe removed from the packaging machine; Xiao Zhao helped his neighbor adjust the wheelchair brake pads and took out a gasket from the tool box, and the size was exactly right.
The packaging machine enters the community, and it’s not just the equipment that enters
At lunch time, the property manager Lao Zhou came over with a box lunch: “When will your packaging machine enter the community again? There are more than 20 elderly people in our community who need to repair their electrical appliances.” These words warmed our hearts.
In fact, when planning the event, the workshop director was worried: "The equipment in our factory weighs two or three tons. We can't move the entire production line there, right?" Later, everyone came up with a clever idea - making the core module of the packaging machine into a mobile teaching model, which can not only demonstrate the principle of automation, but also remove parts for emergency use. Just like last week, when I repaired the old radio for Grandpa Liu in Building 7, I used the micro motor on the conveyor belt of the packaging machine.
The "technical temperature" screwed out by the screwdriver
The most lively class in the afternoon was the "parent-child repair class". We transformed the pneumatic components of the packaging machine into teaching aids and taught the children to assemble a small table lamp. Tongtong, a fifth-grade student, finished tightening the last screw and jumped up and down holding the lighted lampshade: "I want to be an engineer who repairs packaging machines when I grow up!"
Looking at the children's shining eyes, I suddenly felt that the introduction of packaging machines into the community was not as simple as repairing a few home appliances. On the way back to the factory, Lao Wang kept muttering while touching the banner: "Next time, I have to bring more sets of tools. The Dongcun community called us yesterday to make an appointment!"

For this packaging machine into the community activity, more than 20 technical backbones of our factory were mobilized, repaired 58 small household appliances, and conducted water and electricity safety inspections for 19 elderly people living alone. But what touched me more than these numbers was the apple that Auntie Wang stuffed into our tool kit, the video of using the desk lamp sent by Tongtong's mother, and the promise of Engineer Zhang to be our technical consultant.
It turns out that warmth can grow out of cold steel machinery. When the gear meshing sound of the packaging machine mixed with the cooking sound in the residential building, when the indicator light of the multimeter lit up in the small kitchen with the aroma of scallion oil, the screwdriver in our hands suddenly had a new meaning.
On the next volunteer service day, we also plan to bring the packaging machine to the vegetable market - I heard that the old man Sun who sells tofu is worried that the dicing machine is not working well!
